Visions of Vietnam - B+W
There are places in the world that feel like they were made for black and white photography — where the light falls just right, where mood tells a deeper story, and where the quiet moments between the grand ones are often the most powerful of all. Vietnam's northern hills are one of those places, and I recently returned from this magical place, and want to share some of my favourite images with you here.
I recently had the chance to spend time in the region I'd been quietly dreaming about for years — winding through terraced rice paddies draped in morning fog, sitting with locals whose way of life feels both ancient and very much alive, and spending a couple of days in the endlessly-layered city of Hanoi after heading north into the hills. It was a scouting trip for a future OFFBEAT workshop, and from the very first morning, I knew we'd found something special.
What follows are about 25 images from that journey — all shot in black and white, which just felt “right”. Strip away the colour, and what you're left with is light, story, and soul. Vietnam, it turns out, has all three in abundance.
Stay tuned — because we'll be going back, and we'd love to bring you with us.
For the first time ever, I’ve also done a bit of a photographer’s “travelouge” here, too. Would love if you gave it a watch, and if you want to see future glimpses of my photographic travels, subscribe as well!
