Treasures of the Tundra

In early September of 2025 I was invited to the beautiful rustic and remote Wolk Lake Camp in northern Nunavik, a beautiful Arctic and sub-Arctic area in the highest reaches of Quebec.

I have lived and breathed our planet’s Arctic reaches for close to 25 years, and was born in “the north”, and any opportunity to return to these lands, with their wide expanses, clear air, and remote freedom…I’m always “in” if my schedule allows.

I spent a week exploring the tundra around Wolf Lake under the guidance of wonderful host, Inuk, (and camp owner) Allen Gordon. Allen’s knowledge of these lands is extensive, and his ability to find and bring us to our daily objectives was incredible, and we spent multiple days tracking and successfully spending time with musk ox herds…which was a long-time dream of mine.

I’ve always loved these unique and beautiful creatures, and had only previously seen them from the air or as “wee dots” on the faraway horizon in various other Arctic places I had explored previously in my career. I love them, so much, that about a decade ago I had good friend and northern artist, Robbie Craig, design me a tattoo based on his art that I got inked on my shoulder over a long 6-hour session.

Here’s a tiny glimpse of my week. So many images to go through….so many treasures to be found within this tundra heaven.

Want to join me when I return? I’ll be leading a group back to Nunavik in early September, 2027. Want to be notified when it launches? Put your name on our notification list here: https://mailchi.mp/offbeatphoto/nunavik
