I teach a series of outdoor photography workshops; part of my “course” includes a conversation on how it is my belief that in pretty much any scene you can find something interesting by looking for different details such as light and lines, and sometimes more importantly, moments.
Shooting into the sun, the sky wasn’t perfect photographing in this direction – it made for an interesting reflection but it didn’t have particularly vibrant colours or character. But when I saw one of my participants wander into my field of view, creating a nice silhouette I knew I had my picture…she was the missing element to tie together an ‘okay’ photo into something a little more.

how cool…pic makes me miss the north…….
the average mirror shot seems so two-dimensional compared to this one… somehow it isn’t about “oh look at that crazy reflection” but more like entering into a space that surrounds. the sky feels overhead, and the lake under, and the rock beside. meh. so much for words. i’ll settle with: that is a fantastic shot.
