Someone asked me just the other day if I had a “personal vision” regarding my photography, and I think the question, although simple, caught me a little off-guard. I had never really given it extensive thought before, mainly just going about “doing what I do”.
As I thought about it, though, I guess what came to mind is “I look for and present beauty”. Beauty is many things to many people, and can take countless forms. For me, presenting beauty can mean both traditional and non-traditional ideas of what beauty means. Take this recent session I did with Andrea, a well-known and incredibly talented dancer and choreographer. Her beauty, the grace of her movements, and the dignified confidence in which she presents herself needs no explanation. She is a traditional example of beauty.
On the other end of the spectrum, and hopefully present in some of my work here on my blog, is the “beauty” that can be found in industry, or in an event. The beauty of a moment. The beauty of a building. It’s, as they say, in the “eye of the beholder”, but no matter what my subject it’s as close to “a personal vision” as I could hope to offer. Find it. Present it. no matter what the subject.
